Massage and Cancer
Massage for people with cancer is a gentle and comfort oriented massage. The goal is to relieve stress. Massage as most people have experienced is difficult for a person undergoing treatments for cancer, therefore they require a slower pace and gentler touch. The first sessions begin slowly, and as the client and therapist learn the tolerance of the body, adjustments are made. Even when a person is accustomed to receiving massage, this gentler approach, must be taken as the body learns to cope with new healing processes.
Oncology massage is about being comfortable. The massage may be done through clothing, at home in bed, in favorite chair or on the massage table. It maybe focused on one area of the body, such as the feet or back, or a full body massage, as desired.
It is recommended that you consult with your doctor and if there are any concerns I will be happy to discuss the treatment with them. Current treatment and health will always be taken into account and adjustments made as necessary.
